This dataset is useful with other business quality of life or environmental layers to help identify areas available for development that may benefit from certain tax advantages. This dataset is also used to identify sites and buildings available that are in an enterprise zone.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
The purpose of this coverage is to provide a geopraphic representation of enterprise zones in Virginia localities and to identify development zones with tax incentives.

Metadata should be reviewed annually along with the annual data maintenance.
These data are logically consistent and topologically clean although no tests were performed. Points are positionally accurate.
Currently the Department of Housing and Community Development approves new and amended enterprise zone boundaries.
The horizontal positional accuracy meets 1:20,000 national map standards.

A current list of Virginia Enterprise Zones was downloaded from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development's (DHCD) website. This list was used as a checklist to collect geographic representations of the zone boundaries from the corresponding localities. Representations were collected in the form of ArcGIS shapefiles (prefferred), hardcopy maps submitted along with the DHCD application, or derived from representations within online mappling applications. When hardcopy maps or online mapping application were used, local tax parcel datasets and VGIN's Virginia orthophotography was used to map boundaries as accurate as possible. Scanned copies of hardcopy maps and DHCD letters of designation/amendment approval were added to the ArcGIS 10 personal geodatabase when available.

Localities were contacted to provide shapefiles of enterprise zone boundaries listed on the administrator contact list available from DHCD. Shapefiles were imported to the geodatase and minimally processed to meet data standards. Geography was not altered. Hardcopy maps were heads-up digitized. Oline mapping application sources for boundaries were heads-up digitized. Documents relating to each zone were scanned and attached to the geodatabase.
